Avongard Crack Monitor

Tell-Tales are precision gauges used to monitor the movement of cracks, whether horizontally or vertically, on a flat surface. These monitors consist of two plates that overlap for part of their length. The bottom plate is calibrated in millimeters, while the top plate is transparent and marked with a hairline cursor in the shape of a cross.

To use the Tell-Tale, the two pegs are first removed. As the crack opens or closes, the cursor moves in relation to the calibration scale. The changes in the crack’s width can be recorded on the provided crack record sheet. The Tell-Tale is secured across the crack using screws, plugs, and/or adhesive.

When fixing the Tell-Tale over the crack, ensure that the vertical 0 line on the calibration scale is parallel to the crack being monitored. Additionally, make sure that the plate with the AVONGARD engraving is positioned on the right side of the crack. After removing the pre-set pegs, any movement in the crack will cause the cursor to shift relative to the calibration scale. This movement can then be documented on the record sheet.
